Bible Studies
Wednesday Night Adult Study with Rev. Larry Kleiman.
Participants are invited to join friends at 6:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall for a brown bag meal. The study session begins in the parlor at 6:30 and continues to 8:00 p.m. Childcare is available starting at 6:20pm. Opening our fall season is the 4-part series entitled, “The Power of Forgiveness.” Four remarkable people testify to the healing power of the simplest, most difficult task some human beings ever face. Researchers say forgiveness for petty insult, random violence, or genocide can change one’s life forever, in Northern Ireland, the Amish countryside, and at Ground Zero. Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel, Buddhist Thich Nhat Hanh, and authors Marianne Williamson and Thomas Moore speak to the topic of forgiveness in this DVD presentation.
Men’s Mid-Week Morning Bible Study with Mike Akermann
Want to meet Jesus? You have to read the Gospels. Join leader Mike Akermann Wednesday mornings 7:00-7:45am each Wednesday at the church (Please note the new time.). There will be plenty of juice, coffee and rolls. We’ll have lively discussions but minimal outside reading and preparation.
Young Adults: Home Study and Fellowship
Let’s experiment. We have a new DVD study available to young adults (yes, you qualify) that we envision happening in people’s homes, throughout the many communities in which St. Peter’s folks live, and at a pace that feels comfortable to smaller groups as they form. Are you willing to take a risk and join a group of other young adults in creative exploration and discussion about faith, Christianity, and our world today? “Dream, Think, Be, Do” comes from the creators of the popular “Living the Questions” series, but this study is designed in short segments with lots to discuss and a focus on everyday living and theology that affects how we live in the world today. Group leaders/hosts will be determined soon, and first sessions will take place before the end of the year – the rest is up to the group as it forms. To become a part of this creative venture that is sure to spark some questions of faith and some opportunities for more meaningful relationships with friends from St. Peter’s, please sign up by contacting Theresa at theresa@stpeterscarmel.org or 846-6882.
Living With Loss – An Opportunity for All Women
Beginning Thursday, November 12th, and continuing weekly from 9:30-11:30 a.m., join a diverse group of women to explore what it means to live with loss. Each of us experiences loss in some way; many of us in profound ways. Whether you’ve lost a loved one recently, are dealing with the loss of meaningful work, or have lost that feeling within you that allows you to feel more than empty, you are welcome. We will use Christian Theological Seminary Professor, Dan Mosely’s book, Living with loss as our primary text. Additional readings will come from a variety of traditions, and we will explore movies that also deal with different types of loss. Faith is often hugely impacted by what we have lost in our lives, and it is only right that we attempt to explore such realities with one another. Your privacy will be respected throughout this study, but know that your story is welcome, and we would value your participation. For information, please contact Lori Bievenour at 846-6882 x222 or lori@stpeterscarmel.org. Childcare is provided.
