A Monday Meditation for June 7, 2021
St. Peter’s-
For the "I’ve Been Meaning to Ask" series this summer, our Monday Meditations will be written by various members of the St. Peter’s community.
This week, Seth Henseleit-Kreigh answers the question "Where are you from?"
I come from a community that has had to hide for generations.
I come from a community that has been denied its history.
I come from a community that has been marginalized and discriminated against.
I come from a community that has had to fight for its rights and acceptance.
I come from a community that struggles to integrate identity and religion in a society that says it cannot have both.
I come from a community that has had to forge its own path.
I come from a community that struggles to remain true to itself despite society’s expectations for it.
I come from a community that is loving and accepting.
I come from a community that fosters and teaches its youth.
I come from a community that must constantly redefine who it is.
I come from a community that chooses its family.
I come from a community that strives for progress while trying not to forget the struggles of the past.
I come from a community that fights for equality and inclusion but struggles with it itself.
I come from a community that fights from a position of privilege because of those who fought for it.
I come from a community that has an obligation to continue fighting for those who do not enjoy its same privilege.
I come from a community that has diversity as its greatest strength.
